It was with great satisfaction that we received the first Pipistrel SW121. IFA – International Flight Academy, in addition to betting on this type of aircraft for its 2-seat training fleet, also became the brand’s representative in Portugal.
The study that led to the choice of this manufacturer was thorough and took a few months. The selection criteria were purely operational. It would have to be an airplane with a modern construction, and with solutions to facilitate the transition from the first phases of flight to more advanced phases of instrument flying,, at the same time, it shouldn’t not discourage important aspects of a trainer like a steerable nose wheel.
Flight safety has not been neglected neither and, in addition to the quality of construction, the introduction of a ballistic parachute is the last resource solution that we expected never to use, but which serves as an ultimate barrier in preventing larger problems.
Among the elements that make it different from other 2 seat trainers, are:
|PIPISTREL COMPARISON WITH OTHER 2 SEAT TRAINERS||PIPISTREL SW121|
|Airbrakes Fore Fast Descent and CPL Training||Yes|
|Negative Flaps for Faster Cruise and CPL Training||Yes|
|Constant speed propeller||Yes|
|Stearable Nose Wheel||Yes|
|Garmin Digital Autopilot||Yes|
|Double EFIS, Double ADHARS, VOR, ELT||Yes|
|Parachute Rescue System||Yes|
|Certified for Spins / UPRT Training||Yes|
|Day Night VFR||Yes|
|Cruise Speed in Smooth Air / Approach Speed||134 Knots|
On a wide range of aspects, this plane is superior and will certainly translate into great added value for our students. We have no doubt that the set of avionics with double EFIS and digital autopilot, the possibility of training using speed brakes for CPL training, among other will greatly benefit the instruction in our school.
